New Year's Day Ride and Potluck

It’s been a tradition for Silver Wheelers to ride on New Year’s Day. That tradition has been going on for decades.  Why do we ride on New Year’s Day?  Because we can.

The first years were hosted by Pat Serio who gave riders hot soup and hot cocoa at her home in Oberlin  Some years riders came in with rosy cheeks and covered with snow.  Some years bath towels were in order. Hopefully this year we’ll just have clear roads and it won’t be too nippy. Dress accordingly.

When the club grew too big for Pat’s house we moved the party to the Depot. Since we can’t use the Depot now I have reserved the historic First Church in Oberlin (corner of 511 and 58) right across from the square. We will have access to the building from 12:30pm on New Year’s Day until 3:30.

Like to make soup?  We’ll vote on favorite soup so yours may win bragging rights. If you don’t make soup you can bring something else to share. Or just come without bringing anything.  Nobody is checking and everyone always has way too much to eat.

 If you don’t want to ride you can hang out with your biking buddies to start the new year on the right foot.

The route will be YO-YO, unless some leader(s) step up and indicate their desire to start accumulating leader credit for the 2022 season.  I’ll have some maps and if the bike path is clear folks can ride that. Of course we’ll have to see what the weather brings. The ride begins at 1pm. You can drop off soup starting at 12:30.

A few miles may be just what you need to welcome the new year.
One last thing. That darn virus may cause us to change plans (hopefully not cancel!) but stay tuned. Be sure to bring a mask. I’ll have hand sanitizer available.
