Q: How early can I register and get on the road?
A: Registration is open from 6:30 AM to 10:00 AM on the day of the ride. Longer-distance riders should start between 7:00 AM and 7:30 AM, while shorter-distance riders should start no later than 9:00 or 10:00 AM. Rest stop times will be posted in the pavilion, on route maps, and in the ride schedule.
Q: Can I register on the day of the event?
A: Yes, though pre-registration is encouraged, we welcome same-day registrations.
Q: Can I use a credit card to register or purchase items on the event day?
A: Yes, we accept credit card payments through PayPal, which does not require an account to use.
Q: Can I ride my e-bike at this event?
A: E-bikes are welcome, but Class 3 e-bikes are prohibited on portions of the North Coast Inland Trail, managed by the Lorain County Metroparks.
Q: What kind of support will be offered?
A: Support vans will assist with minor mechanical issues, flat tires, and transport for riders unable to continue. First aid supplies will be available for self-administration. In life-threatening situations, call 911.
Q: Is it safe to drink wine and ride?
A: Wine samples are limited to 1 oz. or less for tasting. Stay hydrated, eat food alongside the samples, and avoid riding if you feel unfit. Volunteers are available to transport you back to the start if needed.
Q: What are the routes like?
A: The routes are mostly flat with some rolling hills. Longer routes include modest hills but require no special gearing. Almost all roads are country roads, with occasional highway crossings.
Q: Are the routes marked?
A: Yes, routes are marked with color-coded wine bottle arrow signs. Turn indicators include signs before, at, and after intersections. Cue sheets, maps, and support team phone numbers are provided. GPS users can access Ride With GPS features.
Q: Can I change routes after starting?
A: Yes, you can switch routes mid-ride. Rest stops can help you adjust plans. To take a shorter route, follow the GREEN route markers.
Q: Do the longer routes repeat sections?
A: No, all routes are uniquely designed for variety and enjoyment. Occasionally, you might share portions of the route with riders on other paths.
Q: Can I buy wine on the ride? Do I need to carry it on my bike?
A: Yes, you can purchase wine. Your wine will be delivered to the starting area—ensure your name is clearly labeled on the bag.
Q: What happens if it rains?
A: This is a rain-or-shine event. Weather is typically warm (70s-80s) with possible afternoon winds. Riders have enjoyed past events despite occasional rain.
Q: What if there's fog?
A: For safety, riders may need to delay their start in dense fog or hazardous conditions.
Q: Are helmets required?
A: Yes, helmets are mandatory. They significantly reduce the risk of severe head injuries in accidents.
Q: Will merchandise be available for sale on the day of the event?
A: No. Please preorder merchandise during online registration to ensure availability. Some leftover items from previous years may be for sale.
Q: Will the event close if I’m still riding?
A: Support vans will sweep routes late in the afternoon. Riders not back by 4:00 PM will be asked to ride in the van. The last rest stop closes at 3:00 PM.
